The Smart Marketing Lab was founded by Professor Jamie Jian-minJia, former Dean of School of Economics and Management at Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) and Professor Kin-Nam Lau who serves as its director in 2014. The Smart Marketing Lab is an interdisciplinary research laboratory devoted to projects at the convergence of management/marketing disciplines and the analytics of big data. Staff and students have backgrounds ranging from marketing and consumer behavior to management information system and entrepreneurship and others. The Smart Marketing Lab at SWJTU co-initiated the A100 Project with Chinese University of Hong Kong, University of International Business and Economics, and The International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) in 2014. Data engineering, social listening, voice data mining, and the system of marketing decision making and product referral are the notable research efforts which grow out of the A100 Project. The aim is to generate smart customer insights to enable businesses to drive big data-driven marketing revolution. The Smart Marketing Lab has been actively conducting workshops, with much focus on smart marketing, smart retailing, and the big data and analytics. The lab received Innovation Award of the Application of Big Data from the MOE (Ministry of Education)-IBM University Partnership Program in 2015. The award recognized the lab’s dedicated and outstanding contributions to the field of big data and analytics for businesses.
