Applied Economics

Introduction:

Applied Economics in SEM is a discipline with great growth potential. Relying on Finance, Quantitative Economics and Statistics, featured by Industrial Economics and Regional Economics, this discipline has achieved multi-disciplinary development and yielded abundant accomplishments.


There are 21 supervisors under the discipline, including five PhD supervisors, seven master supervisors, and postgraduate supervisors accounts for 57.1%. 16 faculty members hold a PhD degree, making up 76.2%. Also, there are six professors, five associate professors, and the proportion of faculty with senior titles reaches 52.4%. The student-teacher ratio is 2:1. Besides, dozens of experts and professors at home and abroad have been employed as part-time professors under this discipline.

Since 2012, the discipline team has obtained more than 20 provincial and ministerial projects including National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), National Social Science Foundation of China (NSSFC), and Humanities and Social Science Fund of the Ministry of Education (MOE), with contract funding of more than five million yuan. Related research outputs have been widely published in nearly 300 first-class domestic and foreign academic journals. Furthermore, seven academic monographs have been published and some of them have won the Philosophy and Social Sciences Outstanding Achievement Award of Sichuan Province.


Objective:

This discipline is committed to cultivating compound master students with rigorous academic spirit, solid economic and financial theory basis, reasonable knowledge structure, wide range of knowledge, and the ability to independently engage in economic and financial research. After graduation, students are expected to apply relevant theories and methods of Applied Economics to solve practical problems, and be qualified for teaching work or economic analysis and research work in related fields of comprehensive economic management departments.
