MBA Program

Introduction:

SEM was among the third batch of universities to obtain the right to grant Master of Business Administration (MBA), and began to enroll students nationwide in 1998. Adhering to the principle of “cultivating learning professional managers and entrepreneurs with an international perspective”, MBA program has focused on the construction of faculty team, and the organic combination of theory and practice. It has provided MBA students with superb theoretical guidance, brilliant case analysis and rich practical activities, and therefore has cultivated a large number of outstanding Chinese MBA elites, striving to build an international MBA brand image of Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU). Moreover, relying on SWJTU’s strong background and resources of engineering, under the background of the university’s “double first-class” discipline construction, MBA program follows the spirit of “based on transportation, but not confined to traffic”, continues to summarize, further pinpoints its position, encapsulates the characteristics of MBA degree conferring spot and reflects them in the training process, so as to strengthens its market competitiveness and promotes MBA program’s construction and development.

After two years’ preparation, in June 2016, SEM’s MBA/EMBA programs were awarded the AMBA accreditation for the first time, becoming the second university granted the certificate in Sichuan Province. In 2017, two disciplines of SEM, Management Science & Engineering and Business Administration were graded B+, ranking top 10%-20% among 170 candidates in Fourth Round Discipline Evaluation conducted by the China Academic Degrees & Graduate Education Development Center. In October 2019, MBA/EMBA programs successfully passed the AMBA recertification.

To improve teaching quality, SEM has a complete set of faculty management system that is comprised of ex ante, in-progress and ex post control and faculty self-development support system. Furthermore, SEM has established course teams for all MBA courses listed in the curriculum. Each course team is composed of several teachers, among whom the team leader is an experience teacher of MBA teaching. The course teams undertake course development, teaching, research, and innovation activities, and have the responsibility to help young teachers.

The main research directions of MBA program include marketing and strategic management, operation and project management, finance, accounting and investment management, organization and human resource management, and rail transit management.


Objective:

Cultivate high-level and pragmatic professional managers and management talents who adapt to the needs of social and economic development and traffic management construction, and flexibly use modern enterprise management methods equipped with international vision, innovative awareness, leadership and business ethics, and have strong response, judgment, quantitative analysis, decision-making and other comprehensive abilities in the field of transportation.
