Abstract
Building an indigenous Chinese knowledge system requires researchers not only to address the major national strategic needs but also to engage deeply with real-world business practices to identify the pressing problems that companies face.
This lecture will begin by exploring how to construct innovative theories tailored to the Chinese context through case study research, starting with its fundamental paradigms and assumptions. It will then discuss three distinct case study research designs—positivist, interpretivist, and complementary explanatory—outlining their appropriate applications and methodologies with examples from published literature.
Finally, drawing on three of her own case studies published in Academy of Management Journal and Management World, Dr. Lu will share her first-hand experiences and insights into the craft of conducting fieldwork, analyzing data, and building theory from case studies.
