March 19, 2025 | Chengdu—Professor Paul Hu from University of Utah visited Southwest Jiaotong University’s Jiuli Campus to deliver an informative session on pursuing graduate education in the United States for students from the School of Economics and Management (SEM).
Held in Room 0607, the event was hosted by Dr. Jia Jia, Secretary of SEM’s Youth League Committee, and adopted an interactive Q&A format designed to offer personalized guidance aligned with students’ academic backgrounds and career aspirations.


During the session, Professor Hu provided tailored advice on prospective fields of study and recommended U.S. institutions based on individual student profiles. He addressed key considerations for studying abroad, including GPA requirements, English proficiency requirements, campus safety, and tuition costs. In addition, he also compared the structure of master’s programs in China and the U.S.
Professor Hu also shared insights into post-graduation employment prospects, discussing salary trends across various disciplines and the value of U.S.-based internships and industry connections. Individualized recommendations were given regarding major selection and strategic program applications.


Participants praised the intimate, discussion-based format, noting its effectiveness in fostering meaningful dialogue and delivering practical, actionable advice. SEM plans to host a series of similar international engagement events aimed at supporting students who are exploring global academic pathways and enhancing cross-cultural educational collaboration.
