主讲人简介Boh Wai Fong教授任职于新加坡南洋理工大学南洋商学院。她担任信息技术与运营管理系系主任,同时担任信息管理研究中心主任。Boh教授在知识和创新管理,以及社会网络方面是国际顶尖的专家。她已在Management Science, MIS Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of MIS, Journal of AIS, Research Policy, and Information & Organization等国际顶尖期刊上发表论文。她曾经或现任 Management Science, Information Systems Research, Organization Science, Journal of MIS, and Information & Organization 等期刊的编委会成员。

内容简介In this talk, I will present two key approaches towards behavioural IS research using two distinct studies. First, I will discuss a study, which uses a gamification approach to measure individuals’ cognitive flexibility, an important skill in technology firms that need to flexibly adapt to their environment. As high-tech firms operate in high velocity environments, individuals need to be able to balance between exploration and exploitation. We empirically examine cognitive flexibility of employees in three technology firms by adopting a reversal learning task adapted from the neuroscience domain. The results indicate that cognitive flexibility impact individual work performance, and also moderate the relationship between advice and friendship network centrality and individual work outcomes (work performance and innovation). This study presents a different approach towards measuring individuals’ decision making preferences. Next, I will present a study that examines how one’s social network influences their online communications. This allows us to investigate the information and non-information benefits that individuals derive from their social networks, which lead to better work outcomes. Combining data from surveys, an organization’s email database, and HR records, we shed light on the relationships between social networks, online communication, and work performance. This study shows how researchers can make use increasing availability of data to test fundamental behavioural and management theories. Overall, the two studies present two different approaches towards IS behavioural research.
